Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Shamanism?

Shamanism is an ancient spiritual practice dating back may thousands of years. Indeed, it may be the oldest spiritual practice known to humans. The shamanic world view is that the whole of nature is alive and we are all connected and in relationship with every part of it. This means that even so-called “inanimate” objects are alive (have a spirit) and can be experienced as such and spoken to, for example; stones, weather, rivers. It also includes man-made objects such as cars and buildings.

Shamanism doesn’t exist without spirits and the word “spirit” is loaded with many meanings for many people. In this context however, a shaman or shamanic practitioner will have a relationship with spirit guides and helpers existing in the non-physical realms. The shamanic healer is initiated into the practise of travelling to Non-Ordinary Reality (The Spirit World) to meet and work with spirit helpers in many forms; human, animal or other, for the service of the community.

  • What is a Shamanic Journey?

A shamanic journey involves entering a trance using a drum beat or other means (such as certain plants) and then travelling into the Spirit world (Non-Ordinary Reality). An intention is set before it begins and could be for the purpose of obtaining wisdom, insight and healing as well as spiritual gifts.  Fostering relationships with ancestors, spirit guides, helpers and teachers in addition to power animals and other nature beings such as trees, lakes and mountains is a vital component of the shamanic experience.

For those who are more experienced as healers, journeying can involve looking for soul parts to be retrieved, helping spirits pass on peacefully, extraction of negative energy entities, cutting cords and other energy healing work.

Once the necessary information has been received by the shamanic practitioner, they will then return from the Spirit world back into Ordinary Reality and share what they have learned as required and carry out the instructions of the Spirits.

  • What is a Shamanic Practitioner?

A shamanic practitioner is a person who has gone through a training program with a shamanic teacher to learn how to journey safely and effectively to the Spirit World (Non-Ordinary Reality) and to carry out divination, soul retrieval, psychopomp, extractions and energy healing for the highest good of others in the community.

  • What a Shamanic Reading Is and What It's Not

I will prepare sacred space and connect with my spirit guides and ancestors as well as your energy from a distance. I will then embark on a shamanic journey to the Spirit world to ask the question that you want help with. Once I have received the Spirit message, I will then describe my shamanic journey to you along with my interpretation of the information and suggestions for further personal work. All of this will be sent to you via email.  I do my utmost to faithfully convey the information that the Spirits want you to receive. I do not make things up from my imagination, or provide false interpretations or anything I deem unethical or non-serving to you. I will also tell you the truth but with kindness and love for the highest good.

Answers can come in many forms such as words, colours, smells, tastes, sounds, songs, feelings, symbols, objects, as well as beings: birds, insects, fish, animals, mythical creatures such as dragons, human form teachers and guides, landscape features and so on. The relationship and story between all of these elements is also vital, indeed, EVERYTHING that is shown in the journey has some relevance, even the tiniest of details. The information given by Spirit is multi-dimensional and rich with meaning on many levels and is an invitation for further personal exploration and development.

    Symbolism and Interpretation.

I will interpret the information I receive in your reading and offer suggestions for you to explore further for your betterment and well-being. Bear in mind though that my interpretation is just that, one interpretation and should be taken as such, it is not the be all and end all. Further insights may be gained as you do more personal work and you may see themes develop over time which will create your own personal lexicon of spiritual symbols. Shamanism is a fantastic tool for discovering ourselves and how we can express ourselves more fully in the world.

I will NOT do the following:

    • Journey asking a YES/NO closed question.
    • Journey for you on behalf of someone else.
    • Journey for remote viewing for the purpose of spying.
    • Journey for the purpose of binding or casting spells on others.
    • Journey for the purpose of lottery numbers/gambling.
    • Journey for any purpose I deem to be frivolous, manipulative, harmful or unethical.

Shamanic readings are not for diagnosing or treating medical conditions. Please read my Disclaimer and Terms and Conditions here.

  • What Question Could I Ask?

Formulating the right question is something of an artform  – In my experience Spirit helpers and guides respond best to open questions such as “How” and “What” rather than closed yes or no questions that don’t give them room to respond in a free form and symbolic manner.

Questions can pertain to many areas of life here are some examples:

    • What do I need to know right now?
    • What would doing X allow me to experience?
    • How can I heal from this situation?
    • What message/blessings/healing do my ancestors have for me?
    • Bring me guidance on X situation.
    • How can I improve my relationship with work, money, family, a person, a situation?
    • How can I expand this area of my life? Example: Find my voice, develop my creativity, foster my relationship with Spirit?
    • Bring me a ceremony for X milestone – Example: Moving to a new house, celebrating an achievement, letting go/loss of a loved one.
  • Why Doesn’t My Reading Give Me a Yes/No Answer?

Spirits don’t want to be hemmed in by our binary thinking of either/or and sometimes they don’t attach the same values to situations as we do. For example, asking “Should I take this job or not?” will yield little information because for Spirit, any experience on this earth is a valuable teaching experience. A better question would be “What would taking this job allow me to experience?”. You can then decide for yourself if you want to go forward with it.

What Spirit desire to show us is the potent meaning and insight in response to our questions, as well as many other blessings and gifts that we may not be aware of. They do this best when we allow the critical, analytical mind to step aside and the glorious unconscious to unveil itself in symbols and imagery which are usually beyond description with words. They want to show us rather than tell us and invite us to feel intuitively rather than think. It’s so much more valuable and empowering that way.

  • Can I Ask More Than One Question Per Reading?

Only one question/subject is allowed per reading because the intention of the shamanic journey needs to be kept as clear and concise as possible. Stacking multiple questions at once about different subjects will not yield clear answers and the results will be fragmented and disparate and therefore unhelpful for you.

However I do offer to unpack the symbolism and meaning of the initial reading with subsequent journeys but only in the same session.

  • Can I Ask Questions About My Reading

Yes, you can ask further questions about the results of your reading, for example to clarify something you don’t understand or to explain the meaning of a symbol. But for further guidance from Spirit you will need to book another session or learn to journey yourself.

  • Will a Shamanic Reading Tell The Future?

Possibly, but I believe that it is not set in stone and scenarios shown in journeys are just potentialities that may or may not happen with any certainty. There is no such thing as time in the Spirit world in the same way we experience it here in this physical realm. Therefore asking “When” questions is usually not helpful or accurate. I will not therefore, tell you that something will or won’t happen or give timelines. You must decide what to do with the information provided in the reading and how you would like it to inform your future.

  • I Had a Reading With Someone Else, Can You Interpret It?

Sorry, no. I feel that it would be unethical of me to interpret the work of others. My role is to work directly with the spirit helpers I have a relationship with and to deliver their messages to my clients.

  • What If I’m Not Happy With My Reading?

I do not offer refunds. Please be aware of this before you book and pay for your session. Although I set the intention with your question for the journey before I start, I cannot control the information that Spirit want to convey through me as their messenger. Sometimes, the journeys can be mysterious and difficult to interpret. Sometimes they contain truths that are tough to accept. If it comes up in a journey, then you are meant to hear it. Only book a session if you are willing to listen to what Spirit will tell you. I do my best to offer interpretation and suggestions of how to make use of Spirit guidance going forward.

  • How Quickly Will I Get the Results of My Reading?

Once I have received payment AND I have clarified the question you wish to ask (as necessary), then I aim to respond within a week. If I can respond faster then I will do. I will be in touch to let you know.

  • How Will I Receive My Reading?

After we have agreed a question, or a series of related questions depending on which package you purchase, I will email you the results of your reading. Sometimes there are images and symbols which I will draw for you and send you as an image file. If you have any questions following the reading, please get in touch.
